Welcome to my blog – Cocos Paleo Kitchen! I’m Valerie and I am a foodie! I love to cook/bake, take pictures of food and I love to babble….sohttp://www.cocospaleokitchen.com/?p=828 the question is, why not? (click on ‘Why the blog’ to read full story)
What is Paleo/Lifestyle?
By definition, Paleo is this:
Pa·le·o di·et/ˈpeɪlioʊ ˌdīət/
noun
a diet based on the types of foods presumed to have been eaten by early humans, consisting chiefly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, and excluding dairy or grain products and processed food.
Paleo is many shades of gray in my opinion. I believe that paleo is a template for each individual to make healthy choices – eating real, whole foods. Steering clear from processed foods as well as sugar, soy, grains and dairy. That being said, I believe this is where the gray area comes into play.
There are many people who can tolerate dairy when it is properly sourced. Drinking milk or eating cheese from a grass-fed cow is completely different than drinking or eating from a cow that’s been filled with hormones and cooped up in a small space.
For myself – I try to eat ‘food with a purpose”….all the foods that will help keep me healthy, give me energy and fuel my body with all the right nutrients.
Many people get caught up in the whole, “would a caveman eat that?” But let’s be real — a caveman didn’t have a refrigerator or oven either. Again, it’s what we choose for ourselves to make it work …..using the paleo definition as a guideline. My personal definition is this: eating proteins that are properly sourced, veggies and greens, fruit and healthy fats. I steer clear from soy, dairy, grains and sugar. And that is my paleo template.
What is clean eating?
Simple. Eating foods that aren’t processed. Organic as much as possible & fueling to nourish, not just to get full.
What is a WOD?
A WOD is an acronym for Workout Of the Day. It’s the workout given daily for those who crossfit. It usually consists of a warm up, some type of olympic movement/training and a timed workout (whether it be for time or go through a set amount of rounds) that involve a handful of movements, be it rope climbs, pull ups, pushups, olympic movements or box jumps….there are too many to count/list but it’s something that gets your heart rate up and gets you drenched!
Why CrossFit?
I have always loved running and didn’t think I’d ever love anything as much but when I tried crossfit, I was hooked day one! It could be the box (gym) I belong to….but never-the-less, love it! There’s something about feeling, like you’re going to die in the middle of a WOD and yet you pull it together to get through it – and then when you’re done, it’s an amazing feeling! And then being so sore the next day….barely being able to walk up or down some steps — and yet, I hurry home from work to change and get back to put my body through the test! It’s helped strengthen my core and support my lower back issue so that in itself makes me happy. But I’ve also toned up in so many areas. I am also able to run better because of the HIIT style training in some of the WOD’s. My hubby and I like to do mud runs with obstacles & I’ve been able to get through those with no problem since doing crossfit. I truly believe it has given me the courage to try things I may have never tried. So, why crossfit?? Because it makes me feel good and I am living a better life because of it!
