I am a runner. I know…many crossfit people frown on running but it’s something that I have been doing since I was about 22 and it’s become a part of my morning routine. It’s not really about the running anymore, it’s more of a meditation time for me. I get out there about 5:30am and it’s pretty much just me and fresh air! It really starts my day off on a positive note and gets me going.
I’ve done a handful of marathons, another handful of 1/2 marathons….more 5k and 10k’s than I care to count and though I would love to get another marathon under my belt, I just don’t know if that’s going to happen. It sure takes a lot of training/time to work back up to long runs and I’m not sure I’m ready to put the time in. Crossfit has helped so much with endurance and I found that I didn’t even need to get in a lot crazy long runs for my last marathon – and it was actually my best time and I felt amazing afterward. I did my crossfit wod the very next morning and all was well. So with that, I’m tempted to do one more marathon as I enter my 50’s & then I’ll call it a day! We’ll see.
BUT – I have found another love that my hubby and I can do together! Mud/obstacle runs! My hubby HATES running. He actually hated any kind of exercise until he started crossfit about 2 years ago – but he joined me on a mud run quite a few years back and actually enjoyed it. He likes that the obstacles break up the monotony of running & since then, we’ve done quite a few different mud/obstacle runs over the past few years. One of our favorite runs is the ‘Gladiator Rock-n-Run‘. The run itself is fun but I also love that proceeds go to “TACA” (Talk About Curing Autism). I work with special needs children so this really hits home for me. And the fact that my husband and I can do this together makes it even more fun!
