Truth be told, I’m not much of a fruit eater. I’m sure if you follow me on IG, you notice that fruit isn’t posted very often. But add in some crumbly topping to a cinnamony-apple and I’m all over it! This Paleo Apple Crumble {grain-free | gluten-free} is exactly what I’m talking about!
My family inspires most of my recipes. Over the years, my hubby would say, “You know what would be good….?” and I’m pretty much running out the door grabbing ingredients to try and paleo-fy a recipe that sounded good to him. Lately, my daughter has been chiming in more, “I wish there was a paleo version of ….” __________” and again, I start wracking my brain to create something that would mimic the flavors she was craving. Kylie was actually starting to think about the holiday get togethers and suggested having an apple ‘something or other’ on the dessert table. And voilà, I started playing around in the kitchen and we have a Paleo Apple Crumble that is grain and gluten free to contribute this year!
So – dare I ask. What’s the difference between a crumble and a cobbler….or even a crisp? I have been out at restaurants and have seen both on the menus and quite honestly, they both look and taste a lot alike. After checking in with google, I realize that they are all very similar. What makes a cobbler though, is basically a biscuit/dumpling type topping over the fruit. I venture to say this Paleo Apple Crumble is more crisp ‘like’ than a cobbler type. However, it said that the crisp is more dense. All that to say, I’m sticking with calling it a crumble. But chime in! Please let me know more about the differences if you have more info! All I know is that it’s fruity and there is a crumbly topping on these apples – therefore, an Apple Crumble …..Paleo Apple Crumble, that is!
Speaking of crumbles, I have a Berry Crumble on here as well! It’s a crowd pleaser and super easy to make. While the Berry Crumble was perfect for summer, it doesn’t disappoint any time of year! It’s kid-approved too so make sure to keep this recipe on hand as well.
Summer is a great time to make this recipe but here we are, moving into the holiday season and I don’t doubt that this Paleo Apple Crumble would be great addition to your dessert table. We always have the chocolate pies, pumpkin pies and of apple pies but this recipe can lend a twist on the apple pie and is so much easier to just dump in a baking dish and not have to perfect a pie crust. There’s always room for a pie but let this Paleo Apple Crumble be the recipe that you shave a little time off in the kitchen so you can get other things done!
Grab your apples next time you’re at your favorite farmers market or store and give this Paleo Apple Crumble a-go soon. You won’t regret it!

Could you bake this with coconut flour? I have a nut allergy

Hi Samara!
I haven’t tried it with coconut flour so I can’t say for sure. Coconut flour does soak up wet ingredients quite a bit more than almond flour so the ratios of wet to dry would need to change if you swapped. Cassava flour works more like almond flour so that may work! Let me know if you make the switch. I’d love to hear how it went!
