Are you looking for an easy weeknight meal? Here you go! These Teriyaki Chicken Thighs are finger lickin’ good & can be tossed in the crockpot, then forgotten for a while!
@cocos_paleo_kitchen is LOST!
I created this recipe a few months back and shared it on my IG over at @cocos_paleo_kitchen BUT guess what???? My IG account was HACKED!!!! Ugh. You have no idea how sad it makes me. I had made so many wonderful connections and I am struggling to find some of the 55k followers! How do I go about finding all these amazing people? In the meantime, (after MANY attempts to get help from IG & FB), I have started sharing at my new IG – @adailydoseof_coco 🙂 Go find me there and say ‘hello’!
Since I had shared this recipe on the IG feed, I was a little “behind” on getting it over to the site. So, there’s no better time than now, to share the Teriyaki Chicken Thigh recipe! And did I mention it is soy free?? Yep. Surely is!
The Thighs Have It!
So! Do you have a crockpot? Hope so because these Teriyaki Chicken Thighs can cook, while you work. With the help of Primal Kitchen Foods No-Soy Teriyaki Sauce, the recipe is easy AND delicious! I am really about the ease these days and relying on pre-made marinades & seasonings to help with meals. There were days when you couldn’t get paleo products in the stores or cauliflower rice BUT, things have changed. I’m totally here for the semi-homemade vibe!
While I used to be a chicken breast lover (back in my “no/low fat” days), I definitely prefer chicken thighs at this point. If you are like me, you might like these Buffalo Everything Chicken Thighs. The crispiness of the pork rind/Everything But the Bagel Seasoning on the skin, is perfection. And then drizzling on the buffalo concoction takes it up a notch! Oh man, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
If you aren’t a thigh lover, you can most certainly use chicken breasts or even party wings! Pick your poison and run with it.

While I navigate transitioning to a new IG account, emailing my newsletter list, messaging brands I worked with and mourn the loss of something that was a part of my life for 9+ years …..I’m hoping to see you over at my new IG home. Things happen for a reason and while I don’t know what that reason is yet, I’m ready to move on and explore! I hope you come and tag along 🙂
Oh and let me know what you think of these Teriyaki Chicken Thighs. I’d love to hear from you!
Teriyaki Chicken Thighs
Ingredients
- 6 bone in/skin on chicken thighs
- 8.5 oz bottle teriyaki sauce (I use Primal Kitchen No-Soy Teriyaki
- Sprinkle of garlic powder
- Sprinkle of Ginger (I use Primal Palate Ginger Cilantro)
- Optional for spicy version: 1/4-1/2tsp cayenne pepper (you decide!)
- Chopped green onions
- Sesame Seeds
- Glaze:
- 1 tbsp tapioca flour
- 1 tbsp honey
- Water
- Remaining juices in crockpot
- Sprinkle of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Pour some of the No-Soy Teriyaki sauce into the crockpot – just enough to cover the bottom of pot.
- Lay the chicken thighs in the saucy crockpot.
- Sprinkle the garlic powder, ginger & cayenne pepper (if using) on the chicken ….then pour most of the Teriyaki Sauce on top of chicken, MAKING SURE to leave about 1/4 of the sauce left in bottle.
- Turn crockpot to high for 4 hours (which is what I did) or low for 8 hours.
- Glaze: (the chicken is good without it so you can stop here if you’d like – but the glaze is a yummy addition).
- Mix the tapioca flour/powder with the water in a ramekin.
- Pour the rest of teriyaki sauce into a small saucepan & turn to a medium flame. Pour the tapioca mixture into the pan, as well as honey, juices from crockpot and a couple of shakes of red pepper flakes. Keep stirring to keep the tapioca from clumping! It’s done when all is combined/thickened and there are no clumps (should only take about 2 minutes for this process). It will thicken so if making this ahead, make sure to rewarm to “liquify”.
- Plate the thighs and spoon over the glaze onto each thigh. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve with cauliflower rice, regular rice, broccoli and/or green beans!
